IN LASTROS AND MYSIRGIOU

A meeting of the descendants of Pope Manolis Kalomenopoulos took place in Sitia.
The meeting lasted two days and took place on Saturday, May 11 in Lastros and May 12 in Misirgiou.
In these meetings, the descendants of Pope Manolis from Amari in Rethymno, as well as from Lastros, Mysirgiou and Sitia, took part, a total of about forty (40) in each.
In both villages there was a guided tour with references to places connected with the Kalomenopoulos family and then a Trisay was held in memory of Pope Manolis and his descendants in Agia Triada in Lastros and in Agia Paraskevi in Mysirgiou.
Afterwards, meals were arranged on Saturday at the Tavern of Lastros and on Sunday at the Tavern of the Rousa Ekklisia.
On Saturday night, the visiting relatives from Amari visited the town of Sitia and on Sunday morning the Toplou Monastery.
In his welcome, Nikos Petrakis in Lastros and in his greeting, Manolis Kalomenopoulos in Mysirgiou referred to the action and mission of Pope Manolis and to the history and contribution of the Kalomenopoulos family, to the strong family bond and the great love that binds the descendants for centuries of Pope Manolis and in general the Kalomenopoulos family in the importance of the Revolution of 1821 and in the values of freedom and self-determination of peoples and in the beautiful and precious tradition of family meetings for 200 years.
They expressed the hope and certainty of their continuation and thanked everyone who contributed to this meeting.
Stelios Trindakis and Kostis Tsardinakis guided the visitors to the almost deserted, but very interesting village of Mysirgio and to the small Museum of Agia Paraskevi.
There they talked about the branch of the Kalomenopoulos family and about its important priests and lay offspring, but also about the particularity of this mountainous and beautiful region.
All the participants expressed their great joy and emotion, as well as their enthusiasm and thanks for the warm welcome and hospitality and the beauty of the history of the place.
It is noted that this double meeting is a continuation of the great Event for Pope Manolis Kalomenopoulos, the Revolution and the fighters of 1921, which took place on April 30, 2022 in Rethymno, Arkadi and Nefs Amari, the place of origin of the Kalomenopoulos. This event was organized on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Revolution of 1821 and the sacrifice of Pope Manolis and was considered one of the best events of our National renaissance.
